White Star Sapphire
All About The White Star Sapphire!
Star sapphires have been viewed as prized and unique gemstones since times immemorial. They have a distinct feature called “asterism” that gives them a mystical shine, which makes them appealing and popular. In this article, we will know what a white star sapphire is.
What is a star sapphire?
Star sapphire is a type of sapphire stone, where, as you look closely, you can see a white star appearance in the sapphire [this is due to a phenomenon called asterism]. This “star” is a result of the internal rutile silk inclusions within the stone crystal. When light falls directly on this stone, the microscopic or tiny needles that intersect at 120 degrees inside the sapphire help to create a star effect (six-rayed) that can be seen within the stone.
When you look at a star sapphire from above, the star should be in the center, and the rays should be of equal length. The rays emitting from the star are well-defined, sharp, and bright, and they shouldn’t be fuzzy or blurry.
Colors available
Practically, star corundum can be every color under the sun, be it white, blue, black, pink, grey, black, purple, or red, amongst others. Star corundum consists of every colored star sapphire, with red as an exception. Red is called “star ruby”. Orange, yellow, and green are the most uncommon colors when it comes to this gemstone. The value of star sapphires varies in the market owing to their demand.
