Rutilated Quartz
Rutile quartz (Rutilated quartz)
Rutile Quartz or the Rutilated Quartz is a type of quartz that comprises needle-like, acicular, rutile inclusions. This variant of quartz is popular as gemstones and is available in different colours.
The distribution of this quartz can be found in bundles or just randomly. They are even sometimes arranged like stars, and their bodies may look sparsely or densely enough to appear nearly opaque. Though inclusions often lower the crystal value, rutilated quartz increases its values on the basis of this beauty and quality of inclusions.
Origin of the Rutile quartz (Rutilated quartz)
Rutile most commonly grows in metamorphic rocks like eclogite. Plus, it is also available in the accessory minerals in the igneous rocks. They are particularly found in the deeper plutonic rocks of igneous and volcanic with some deep derivation, such as the kimberlites.
Rutile quartz is an ultra-high pressure and ultra-high temperature mineral, which is the most commonly mined for titanium. It usually takes the shape of thin, needle-like crystals that are available as not only quartz but also corundum.
Composition of the Rutilated Quartz
Rutilated Quartz primarily comprises minerals that are titanium dioxide with a large quantity of iron oxide.
Colours of the Rutilated Quartz
As there are iron impurities in the minerals, Rutile is usually found in brownish-red colour. As a reflection of this colour trait, the name is a derivation of the Latin word “rutilus,” meaning “rich red.”
Though the rutile quartz appears in a clear or smoky shade, sometimes it appears in even black colour. This is mainly because of the content of a high quantity of iron oxide that makes the inclusions turn the quartz in the rutilated quartz in red or golden tones. Such inclusions can appear as golden hair strands.
They can either look reddish-brown, silvery, coppery or black tones.
Sizes of the Rutilated Quartz
Mostly, igneous rutiles are relatively smaller in size. Contrary to this, if time and space permit, igneous rutile crystals may grow larger in pegmatites.
Availability of the Rutilated Quartz
Rutilated quartz is a gemstone that is accessible. Although the pattern on every stone is quite extraordinary, they are available widely. From Australia, Spain, India, Russia to Brazil and Madagascar, rutilated quartz is mined. Therefore, they are fairly common and somewhat affordable. However, polished and unique shapes of ultra-clear rutile quartz are a little expensive.
Benefits And Healing Properties Of Rutilated Quartz
Since rutilated quartz contains certain healing properties that generate divine inspiration; as a result, rutilated quartz is also popular in fostering clear understandings, fuels divine creativity and promote powerful wisdom.
Rutilated quartz, in particular, golden tone benefits in energizing the mind and cleansing the negative aura from life.
Usage of the Rutilated Quartz
Use the Rutilated Quartz in the making of jewellery. The glamorous colours of the quartz make the gemstones highly popular among the collectors and designers of the jewellery industry.
