What is Goldstone?
Goldstone is a semi-precious gemstone that has a striking glittering appearance. Though the name is “goldstone”, but there is neither gold nor stone.
It is a glittering gemstone that forms in a low-oxygen decreasing atmosphere. The finished products appear to be smooth with a glittering effect. It can also be carved into figurines, beads or other artefacts favourable for semi-precious stone.
How is Goldstone formed?
The most common form of this stone is the brilliant reddish-brown hues which contain little metallic copper crystals. These tiny crystals need special conditions to occur in the right way.
The initial batch gets melted together from minerals, including silica copper oxides along with other metal oxides for reducing the copper ions to elemental copper. Then, the vat gets sealed off the air and protected in a limited range of temperatures to keep the glass hot sufficient for maintaining liquidity. Simultaneously, it allows metallic crystals to precipitate from the treatment without getting melted or oxidised.
After a desirable crystallisation period, the total batch is then cooled to only one solid mass. After that, it is broken out of the vat for undergoing the selection process and shaping.
The ultimate appearance of these batches is perhaps highly uneven and heterogeneous. Usually, the best element is close to the middle or heart of the slab.
