Natural Tsavorite Green Garnet
Tsavorite green garnet is the beautiful green colored variety of Grossulargarnet.Tsavorite green garnet is regarded as the most valuable of the Grossular type due to its rarity. British gem prospector and geologist Campbell.R.Bridges found this deposit of Natural Tsavorite Green Garnet gemstone in the mountain ranges of North-east Tanzania, miles away from Komolo. The found specimens that were discovered were rich and intense in color and had high transparency. This unique feature encouraged trade and export of the stone, against the permits of the Tanzanian government.
Bridges continued his search in parts of Kenya, in hopes of getting more of that stone. In 1971, he was successful, yet again and found traces of Natural Tsavorite Green Garnet and gained permit this time. Tsavorite Garnet gemstone was not much known to the mineral specialists except for a few. In 1974, Tiffany and Co launched a marketing campaign about the Tsavorite Garnet gemstone which brought more publicizing and recognition to the gemstone.
The colour of Natural Tsavorite Green Garnet Gemstone is green, looks like emerald but is still different. The colour is flawless in nature with lighter tones of yellow also available. It was earlier found in Kenya and Tanzania and mainly in Africa. It is also found in Madagascar, Toliara. Small deposits of Natural Tsavorite Green Garnet are also found in the countires of Pakistan Queen Maud Land, Antarctica. It is thus a rarely located gemstone, not available elsewhere.
The name given to Top Quality Natural Tsavorite Green Garnet is derived in honor of Tsavo East National Park which is Kenya.
The bright green colour of the gemstone is because of the amounts of the elements of chromium or vanadium in its chemical composition. In ultraviolet light, it boasts a fluorescent light cream-yellow colour. Tsavorite formed in a Neoproterozoic metamorphic event which involves extensive folding and refolding of rock. This results in a wide range of inclusions forming within most Tsavorite crystals. These inclusions are strong identifying features in Tsavorite gemstones.
