Natural London Blue Topaz
Topaz is mined from several countries around the world. Blue colored natural topaz is very rarely found. The dark, greyish blue coloration, or “London blue,” of these natural topaz gemstones results from a standardized radiation treatment that requires 3-4 years to produce the deep blue coloration. Wear natural London Blue Topaz with a specific medium blue color to live a calm and stress free life.

Unusual Properties
London Blue Topaz Stones will heighten your ability to communicate better and express yourself meaningfully when speaking or writing. This semi-precious stone is fragile and brittle, with a sheen akin to glass and a profound cleavage. You can find blue topaz birthstones in dark to cool blues, also called Sky Blue, London Blue, or Swiss Blue, depending on the intensity of the hue.
Treatment
Topaz London blue is typically produced by exposure to radiation in a nuclear reactor. The radiation changes the color centers when topaz is exposed to fast neutrons, producing a deep blue color. Subsequent heat treatment is often used to lighten the inky color. Material treated this way is likely radioactive and may require several months of storage before the radioactivity decays to safe levels.
