How is Unakite formed?

Unakite is a semi-precious, metamorphic rock that occurs when granite gets modified by hydrothermal metamorphism. During the metamorphism process, plagioclase present in the granite is rebuilt into epidote. It produces a rock that mainly contains pink orthoclase, green epidote and is apparent to milky quartz.

Furthermore, Unakite contains a small amount of chromite, magnetite, apatite, ilmenite, zircon and various other minerals. This stone occurs in shapeless rocks of convergent plate boundaries in the place where granite metamorphosed in deep formation by weathering and erosion exposure.

Where is Unakite found?

Unakite is currently mined around the world, including China, Brazil, Sierra Leone and South Africa. It is predominantly found in America. Moreover, they are found on the shores of Lake Superior in Minnesota.
